C-con at Domsjö Factorys: A partnership for a safer working environment
In the dynamic industrial town of Örnsköldsvik lies Domsjö Factorys. The biorefinery whose main products are cellulose, lignin and bioethanol, all originating from Swedish forestry. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team works to manage the factory's pipe markings and flow charts, a task that requires the right qualifications and a lot of detective work.
Anna Hägglöf and Ari Pohjola, Domsjö factorys, are part of the team. Both are well versed in the plant and its complex processes.
Going back to 2021, Domsjö Factorys saw the need to take a larger approach to the issue of having the entire plant's flowcharts revised. After a presentation by C-con's owner Clas Bergman, the company was then given the go-ahead to begin its work in the plant.
- We have also tried to work with it in the line, but it is so big that it became difficult to move forward, says Anna
Since then, C-con has been on site to assist Domsjö Factorys. Their focus is on helping to ensure compliance with laws and regulations relating to chemical work environment risks. Part of this involves labeling thousands of hand valves - a huge job that requires the right resources.
Ari Pohjola is the one who takes care of the pipe markings. The extensive work of revising flow charts is something that, with the size of the factory, he does not have time for. That's where C-con comes in as a resource, and Ari works with the company on a daily basis.
- We can't do it ourselves, but not just anyone can do this work, it's a skilled job that we're glad C-con is doing," says Ari.
The C-con works both in the field and at the computer. Older errors must be fixed and updates must be made. Operations are not affected as much of the work is done in secret. When small changes are made, it must be updated, otherwise the overall picture disappears.
- You have to go pipe by pipe and be careful, that's why this job takes so long," says Ari.
The importance of accurate flowcharts cannot be overstated. These diagrams form the basis for safe shutdowns and serve as a tool for problem solving. Being able to trust the auditor to get it right is therefore of the utmost importance. Choosing the right company is therefore crucial, and the presence of C-con with the right resources makes a partnership like this happen - and last year after year.
